Some more bloggy stuff: a new look for October.

First of all, thank you all for the well wishes for Alan’s birthday! It’s so sweet that people we’ve never met are wishing him a happy birthday.

And now for what was supposed to be a short post but isn’t turning out to be that:

You know, I was trying to keep away. I was. I wasn’t going to go on my computer at all the rest of the week. But its siren call kept beckoning and I found myself reading blogs yesterday. And then I was compelled to draw a new banner. The warm weather was screaming at me to change it. It’s silly to see us ice skating when it’s been warm and we’re out in skirts and dresses…well not Alan because he doesn’t like wearing skirts or dresses. (that I know of. Just kidding honey. I know he doesn’t like wearing skirts or dresses. We’ve known each other so long I’m sure I’ve actually asked if he secretly liked dressing as a woman, probably after watching some movie about a guy who wanted to be a woman. And I digress. What was I saying?)

So I asked Alan what I should draw for the new banner. He said something about green hills I think. I can’t remember exactly and he’s asleep right now. I don’t want to run into the bedroom and wake him up just to ask. But anyhoo I am going off subject again, this is what I came up with: us laying on a blanket in the grass.

Ok now I am going to TRY to stay away from this addictive machine the rest of the week. No blog reading today. Try to stay away from email even. (Gasp! Is that possible?) Just post this and I’m gone.

I’ve been meaning to make a new banner but my wacom pen wasn’t working. Why? Because I let Isabelle play with my wacom pen and it stopped working for days. Why do I keep letting her play with important things? Well the pen finally started working again so I made a new banner for the winter.

I know we don’t have snow here or ice skating on ponds. But so what! It’s my blog and I’ll draw what I want to!

It has finally gotten cold here. Today Isabelle actually had pants on. So it seemed silly that my banner had us in bathing suits. I hurriedly drew something up. I’m not entirely sure about it. I’m not loving it. But of course I didn’t love our bathing suit banner either. Maybe I’ll do something else…

It’s been so warm lately. My banner with us all bundled up was just screaming for a change. So change it is.

OOoh scary…as I was trying to post this and update everything Isabelle started to fuss a little in her sleep. So I went to lay down next to her when all of a sudden we had a power outage. Usually we sleep with our closet light on so when the power went out that went out. Luckily my laptop was open so light was coming from there. Unluckily it’s low on batteries so it went dark and WE WERE IN THE PITCH DARK. No white noise and no light. I got up to look for some light and panicked a bit.

Do you know how scary it is to fumble around in the house in the dark looking for a lighter you hope is where you remembered it while your sleeping daughter is in your big bed? Well let me tell you. It’s fucking scary.

All the thoughts that were banging around in my head: I worried that if I couldn’t find a light then how to get back into bed without being able to see Isabelle!! And then I couldn’t find our candles that used to be on the coffee table because we moved it when we made room for the air mattress. And then I couldn’t call Alan because I need a new cell phone and the cordless phones don’t work because hello they need electricity. and the regular corded phone that used to be in the second bedroom just for this case got moved when it became Isabelle’s room. I don’t know where our plug in the wall charge up flashlights are. They aren’t plugged in. Honey plug them in. Ya reading this? Oh and what the hell do I do if I can’t find light and the power stays off all night? Awww!! Those were some of my panicked thoughts. I don’t know how many more I had groping around in the dark…

And yes I managed to find a lighter and candles. And luckily the power came back on eventually.

But can you feel how panicked I was by this incoherent post?

I just realized how very unprepared we are in case of an emergency.
