The first thing I thought of when I heard the topic for this Illustration Friday was a bumble bee. The second thing was an electrified fence. This image would not leave my head so I decided to illustrate it. Do electrified fences even buzz???

And now looking at it and thinking about how I first thought of a bee I am almost tempted to put a bee flying around in there…

I found drawing the topic mask for Illustration Friday last time very relaxing. I think it was the repetitive lines. It’s very soothing to draw them, sort of like knitting. I couldn’t stop drawing them so this week’s topic has water like last week’s.

It has been a while since I have done an Illustration Friday or I should say since I’ve actually shared something. I drew this last Friday right when I saw the topic. I wasn’t going to post this because I wasn’t happy with it.

But I’ve been feeling melancholy with the news of James Kim. I broke into tears when I heard he was found and did not survive. They’ve been in my thoughts these past couple of days as I fall asleep and when I awaken. The family’s story really got to me, so much that Alan noticed and asked why this family affected me so much. I don’t know. I didn’t have an answer. My heart goes out to the family. I wish them peace.

And today thinking about them I decided to post this after all, this image of sweet Isabelle asleep. I think about how terrified I was of childbirth and how I am so proud that I gave birth to her. I think about how she makes me feel so strong, how I would do anything for her. I’m sure I write it often enough, how very much I love her but I wanted her to also know how much strength she gives me, how powerful she makes me feel, how I would walk into uncertain danger for her.

Hug your loved ones, tell them and show them how much you love them, and cherish all the small moments.

This week’s topic for Illustration Friday is cake. I’m really attracted to handwritten text lately as an element in art. I used text as a background again like I did for last week. This time the text says Now that’s a piece of cake!

The topic for Illustration Friday this week is sorry. This guy just popped into my head. I was thinking of Isabelle and how she doesn’t fart as much anymore. I liked her little baby farts. So I wanted to draw farting. And I wanted it to be an animal farting and right now I’m in the mood for cats so this picture came about. Farting is usually embarrassing in public. Why? I mean it’s natural. And Isabelle’s little farts were so cute, I didn’t mind them at all. So that’s why the bottom half of the text says don’t be sorry.
