Save Me Super Hamster!

Illustration Friday: Save me Super Hamster
Lately whenever Isabelle brings some pens over, asking me to draw, I find myself drawing this little guy. He sort of reminds me of a hamster.

Then I remembered, when I was little, we had a hamster. I can’t remember his name. I can’t remember what happened to him. But I do remember I used to take him out of his cage, hold him in my hands, and “fly” him around the room saying, “Super Hamster!!”.

And seeing as the topic for Illustration Friday is “save” I thought I’d share.

Illustration Friday: Superstition

Superstition
For Illustration Friday. Wow I haven’t done one in a while.

The girl and the cat are based on the doodles I’ve been drawing with Isabelle lately. Well that is when she’ll let me draw. Sometimes she turns the pages so fast I can barely get a scribble in. The doodles look familiar to me, like I’ve seen them before. Maybe? I hate it when that happens, when something seems familiar but I can’t place it. Maybe the bumblebee reminds me of Isabelle on Halloween? Ya think?!

Illustration Friday: Remember

I’ve been practicing drawing hands more. If you’ve noticed, it’s coming across in my quick little doodles where there are now hands with actual hints of fingers instead of just half circles. I’m trying to find my style. I’m comfortable with my little doodles but I’ve always wanted to draw more realistic figures. This is sort of half way between my doodles and what I thought I wanted. But as I’m moving away from my doodles I don’t know if I’m happy with going more realistic. Maybe it’s just that I’m uncomfortable with it…

Well anyhoo, to this drawing. Illustration Friday this week is remember. The word calls to mind conversations I have with Alan everyday. We marvel at how big Isabelle has gotten and often say remember how small she was when she was born, how skinny her little legs were? Remember how she used to just lay there like a lump? Remember when she was in my belly and we could feel her kicks?

And when Isabelle is all grown up I will remember these days, when she’s still tiny but so much bigger than when she first got home and I will say to her, I remember…

Illustration Friday: Polar

When I saw the word polar for Illustration Friday this week, I couldn’t get the idea of a dancing polar bear in a pink tutu out of my head. But as I was drawing him I decided I liked him just like this, without a silly pink tutu.

Illustration Friday: Green

Thinking about a green field of bunnies (maybe because of Easter) for Illustration Friday. Sorta scary huh?

I always thought it was weird that Anya was afraid of bunnies until I saw a picture of one of those monster big ones that weigh more than Isabelle. FREAKY! Those scare me. Maybe that’s why some of these came out scary looking. Or maybe it’s just the idea of green bunnies. Bunnies are not green. So if they are green there must be something wrong with them! Ahhhh scary green ZOMBIE bunnies!! Run away! Run away!

Illustration Friday: Sprout

I’m still sewing madly here and didn’t get to finish my Illustration Friday this week. And now it’s almost Friday again so I will post it as is. It isn’t what I exactly envisioned but I sort of like it in this draft stage.
