Isabelle: Mommy, look at my drawing. Can you make her into a dolly for me?
Can you make this dolly for me mommy?

Me: Sure. Which one? The round one?

Isabelle: Yes, the round one.

Me: What kind of dolly do you want me to make? Do you want me to make it directly from your drawing like the us dolls? She’ll be a little flat.

Isabelle: No.

Me: How about I sew it up like your Isabelle doll?

Isabelle: Uuuuuummmm….no.

Me: Ok let me think. *think, think, think* Ok, how about I crochet it like your little red airplane?

Isabelle: YES! OK! YES!!

Me: Ok what color do you want her body?

Isabelle: Blue.

Hook. Hook. Hook….

Me: Ok Isabelle. How about her legs and arms? How about this color?

Isabelle: No, how about this color.

Me: And her feet?

Isabelle: This color. And I want this color for her eyes and her ribbon.

And more hooking and knitting and sewing and embroidering.

Me: Here you go Isabelle! Does it look like your drawing?

Isabelle: YES she does! Oh thank you mommy!! Thank you! I love her!
Her dolly. My dolly

Me: You’re welcome honey.

Isabelle: I’m going to name her Horsey.

She runs off and plays with Horsey.
She named her toy Horsey. What?

Nathan: I want a dolly too mama!

Little Crocheted Elephant

Isabelle’s nosebleeds aren’t all crazy anymore. That first day after we got the air purifier and humidifier, no blood. NO BLOOD!! And she’s only had two since then, quite an improvement over the nine nosebleeds last week.

But allergies are kicking my butt. My eyes are all itchy even with the air purifier and I don’t know if that’s why I’ve been feeling a little run down. In fact, today I took a nap with Nathan. A nap when he doesn’t usually have a nap. That is of course why he is WIDE AWAKE now. And he’ll be up late too. Sigh.

Oh well. Never mind that. Look at this instead. Something new!
Isabelle and her little elephant
OOohhhh! A little crocheted elephant.

Isabelle originally wanted a little boy elephant, a bright blue one. But partway through crocheting it, she requested the elephant with the skirt instead.

Nathan likes her long nose.
Oooh look at her nose

Poke, poke, poke.

I made a new banner. And now I’m tired and incoherent. I don’t feel like writing much so here are some pictures taken a couple of weekends ago when my sister came out.
Start of granny squares
I have not touched these bits in a while. Nathan has hidden my hook.

Cousins

Silly cousins
Oh my! The end.

My Cup of Tea, Gnome Hats

I mentioned the other day that I found a replacement hat for my favorite pattern, the umbilical cord hat for babies. Well, here it is, a crocheted gnome hat!
Gnome hat

But as I said, in that post, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
Someone doesn't want to wear the gnome hat
Take this gorram thing off of me mama!

Nathan sure didn’t want to wear it.
So off it comes
Whoo got it off!

And that is why every single photo of this hat is a little blurry.
Much better
Much better.

But ain’t it purty? Whatdya think? Too unusual for a baby shower gift? Stay with umbilical cord hats as gifts?

Busy with the Hook

I have loads of pictures to share but I haven’t felt like going through them all. Maybe it’s the sad news from Japan. So instead, here are some quick pictures of something I’ve been doing to occupy my free time besides watching the news.

Crocheting.
Hex crochet
I’ve always wanted to make a granny square blanket. Then I saw Futuregirl’s hex tote and her hex tote crochet along. I thought I’d give it a try to see if I could make a hex blanket instead of a hex tote or a granny square blanket.

The videos made the making super, super easy. Why can’t all patterns also show how to make them in video form? How awesome and easy that would be for people who promptly forget what stitches are what, after they finish a project. And by “someone”, yes, I do mean me.

So, back to what I was saying, I made my hex. I think I did it right. I was so proud I actually hugged it and straightaway showed it to Alan. I told him my idea to make a hex blanket but he said he liked the granny square blanket better.

So, I tried a granny square. I think I may have done something wrong. Actually, I know I did something wrong.
Attempting a granny square
Futuregirl’s videos were so easy to understand I jumped off of them and a pattern I found and tried to make a square combining what I learned from the videos. But it’s wrong. Why? Mainly because I am missing an entire round of color. D’oh! I will have to try again.
