Weeks and Weeks of Lovely Analog

I have weeks and weeks of instax photos to share. Well, weeks of photos period. It’s not that I’ve taken gobs and gobs of photos, too many to go through. It’s a handful here, a handful there. But when I don’t go through them, they pile up and then…GACK! GACK!!…I make noises like what I imagine prehistoric birds sound like. So many photos. I’m paralyzed with the backup. And me doing nothing makes it worse because more handfuls pile up. G.A.C.K!!!!

OK….b..r…e..a..t..h..e…Just start somewhere. Anywhere.

Ok. Here. Instax photos. Isabelle’s are on the left. Mine are on the right.

From when we went to a Fizz, Pop, Wow class at the Lawrence Hall of Science. We didn’t take our instax pictures inside. D’oh! I remembered in the parking lot.

Just hanging out at home. Isabelle specifically asked for the camera to take a picture of Nathan.

At the reptile store because we didn’t take our instax pictures at the disappointing post office tour. Disappointing to me because I thought we’d see it all in action and envelopes getting sorted. But the post office was quiet and everything was empty. All the hubbub had gone on in the morning, and everything else was pretty much done already.

Darn flash. I figured out the flash button isn’t to turn flash on or off. It’s to force it on. So, other times it will just go when the camera thinks it’s needed.

At the Martinez Marina with our homeschool group. In the rain. Well, a fine drizzle. Oh and where there was more rock throwing. And also crying on half the walk back to the car. Nathan. Not me or Isabelle.

Nathan was not happy. He squirmed in my arms and then when I put him down he’d cry to be picked up. When we got close to the car he pulled at my raincoat and said “off”. But he didn’t say milk so I don’t know what was up with my grumpy guy.

And there!! Hee hee!! All caught up on our instax photos! A hoo! A hoo! Do a happy dance!

Impulse Buy

Today we made an impulse buy.

Well…sort of an impulse buy.

Not entirely out of left field.

I’ve always wanted one.

Or two.

Or three.

Or four.

We’ve, me and Alan, have thrown the idea around before.

So, it wasn’t entirely an impulse purchase without any forethought.

So, how did this impulse purchase come about?

One of the homeschool moms bought a couple and Alan was talking to her about it.

So…

We thought we’d go this weekend just to look.

And look we did.

Looking ended up as buying!

They were only going to have them for one more week.

So we TOTALLY had to buy right that moment. *wink wink*

But we didn’t buy one.

Or two.

But three.

Yes we bought THREE.

Ok.

Enough stalling.

What did we buy?

CHICKS!! I think the guy said they are 4 days old.
Silver polish pullet chick
This one, that Alan chose, is a Silver polish pullet. I think I’m remembering the name right. At the store Alan said he wanted to name it Popeye. I thought, what a strange name for a chicken.

Buff laced polish chick
This one, that I chose, is a buff laced polish. Again I hope I got the name right.

Wellsummer pullet chick
And this one, that Isabelle chose, is a Wellsummer pullet, I think. They had all the kinds of chicks written down but taking a picture of the tags to remember would have been too smart. For some reason, in my excitement, I must have thought my faulty brain could remember their very strange names. So…who knows. These might be something else entirely. But I think I got them right. At the feed store, I googled the different chicks to see what they would look like as adults so I went back in my phone to check my history when we got home. I think I got it right. I think…

About an hour ago Alan asked Isabelle what she wanted to name her chick. He suggested, the Colonel. And I kid you not, I just got the Popeye joke at that moment, 9 hours later. :-D

The kids find them fascinating.
Isabelle was fascinated

Yes, even Nathan.
Nathan was fascinated
He says, “bird! bird!” And “cuuuute!”

And they are cute. And they make the cutest cheeping chirping noises. And when they do Alan jokingly runs around saying, “why won’t they shut up?!” Bwa ha ha!

And they do chicken stuff that I didn’t even know about. Like when they’re tired they lie down all sprawled out like they’re dead. It’s sort of eerie. And when they drink water it is sooo stinking cute. They take a sip and raise their heads to swallow. It’s funny. And you have to show them water and feed the first time. You put their beaks in. Well they are only 4 days old. They can’t know how to do everything right off the bat.

Yep. So impulse buy. Chicks. At least they only cost $3 a chick.

Chicken Mode

We’ve been in chicken mode. What exactly is chicken mode? Well…it’s where we become obsessed with chickens. Last night, before bed, there was a flurry of texts between me and Alan. I was sending him links to chicken coops I liked.

And then today, more chicken talk. In looking for a coop, I came across wording that said a certain coop would hold more bantams than chickens. And I’m all like what? So, I Googled it. Bantams are smaller than standard chickens.

Hmmmm…that would have been useful information before we went chicken looking. But would we have gotten bantams? I don’t know. The tags said there is a higher chance we have hens with the ones we chose. I don’t know what we’d do with a rooster.

And chicken with pants? This is what Alan meant, all fuzzy down the legs and not so chicken leggy.

And let me end with a quick little video of the chicks for my sister.

Me So Sleepy

Look at what Isabelle drew, chickens!

This space may be in danger of becoming a chicken blog. ;-)

Yes, I may or may not have been planning to share some more chick pictures today. But you were saved by sick kids, they have a cough. And it’s been keeping me up at night. Well, up isn’t the right word. I’ve been sleeping. It just hasn’t been a restful sleep. With Isabelle it’s the whole cough cough gag vomit thing. And with Nathan he just coughs and cries.

These past two days I’ve been so tired that I’ve fallen asleep for a quick nap with Nathan next to me wide awake. And the silly thing is, it hits after Alan leaves. I should have taken a nap when Nathan went down for his nap but I wasn’t tired then. Nope. Sleep attack had to hit when I’m alone with the kids. Actually, yesterday or the day before I might have fallen asleep with Nathan at nap time.

When I sat down today to share more chick pictures I didn’t have it in me to go through all the pictures. I wanted to share how they already look bigger and it’s been less than a week. Oh well.
Sick kids
Tomorrow. You didn’t really want to look at chick pics anyways, right? Cute little fuzzy chicks!!! Awwwwww!! Ok. Stop typing now since you are tired and starting to ramble. Yes, I am talking to myself.
