I got a new camera, an instant camera.

It looks like a big toy camera. In the above picture it looks big. But I think this picture below emphasizes the bigness even more so.

I’ve been wanting an instant camera for a while. Let me rephrase that. I have three instant Polaroid cameras but no film for them. I’ve been eyeing the Fuji Instax Mini 7 for a while.

So, last weekend when we saw a tiny Polaroid 300 (which is a Mini 7 I think) at Target I finally gave in and decided to get a camera. I could have bought some film for the Polaroid cameras I have but I did the math. I figured in the long run I’d save money even with the cost of a new camera because the film is cheaper.

And I didn’t get the tiny Polaroid 300 because it’s sooooo small. I knew it was small but I didn’t realize how small until I held the box in my hand. So, I went and got a Fujifilm instax 210 instead. I got it online so I didn’t realize how big it was until I opened the box.

Anyhoo, I thought it’d be fun to take a photo a week like cakies. Except I thought I’d do it with Isabelle.

I was trying to explain something about the camera to Isabelle before she took the picture. But as I was talking she pushed the button.

I showed Alan the photos saying, oooh lovely analog. He replied, “they’re blurry. If you had taken this with your digital you would have chucked them.” Well, I think they’re lovely. LOVELY!!

I have loads of pictures to share but I haven’t felt like going through them all. Maybe it’s the sad news from Japan. So instead, here are some quick pictures of something I’ve been doing to occupy my free time besides watching the news.

Crocheting.

I’ve always wanted to make a granny square blanket. Then I saw Futuregirl’s hex tote and her hex tote crochet along. I thought I’d give it a try to see if I could make a hex blanket instead of a hex tote or a granny square blanket.

The videos made the making super, super easy. Why can’t all patterns also show how to make them in video form? How awesome and easy that would be for people who promptly forget what stitches are what, after they finish a project. And by “someone”, yes, I do mean me.

So, back to what I was saying, I made my hex. I think I did it right. I was so proud I actually hugged it and straightaway showed it to Alan. I told him my idea to make a hex blanket but he said he liked the granny square blanket better.

So, I tried a granny square. I think I may have done something wrong. Actually, I know I did something wrong.

Futuregirl’s videos were so easy to understand I jumped off of them and a pattern I found and tried to make a square combining what I learned from the videos. But it’s wrong. Why? Mainly because I am missing an entire round of color. D’oh! I will have to try again.

Ok I didn’t right out start bawling. But a little sniff sniff, maybe. My baby is growing up. And he didn’t quite say, “Isabelle come back!” It was more like, “I-a-beh caa baa!” All the syllables were there if not the rest.

I’m popping in super quick to share some pictures from last week. We went to an exhibit, Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margret and H. A. Rey, with our homeschool group. And I’m not going to write much because Nathan is super grumpy. His tummy has been upset for days.

I wish I could have taken pictures of their work. It was lovely. I particularly liked seeing some of their handmade greeting cards. But since we couldn’t take pictures this was the only shot I got of the exhibit, around the corner and outside. Can you see the house in there?

And that was basically it at the museum. Really, when you can’t take pictures there are no pictures to share. So, here we are outside the museum.

It was Nathan’s first time!

In my mind’s eye I see myself, before Nathan, posting regularly in an ordered pattern sort of this way: family posts, drawings, crafty posts. It was never the same category one after the other. I don’t know if that was actually reality. That’s just how I wanted to post. I think I managed it after Isabelle turned one. And now that Nathan’s a year and a half old and not needing me so very much, I think I’ve found that groove back.

My most recent posts have followed a similar pattern. Family, craftiness, drawings. And eeeep, that makes me so happy! I don’t know if I can keep it up but I can hope.

Here’s one of the recent things I finished, another umbilical cord hat (from Stitch N’ Bitch). I seriously love these things for new babies.

Though I love this pattern, I may have found a replacement hat. I say may because the new hat fits Nathan now, so it’s not for tiny babies. And though I like it, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. I’ll share in a few days when the next cycle of my “pattern” of posting comes along.
