July 7 and 8, 2010
Isabelle and Nathan are so different in the tooting department. When Isabelle was a baby she was so farty. Nathan. The complete opposite. Rarely hear anything from his booty. So, maybe that’s why Isabelle felt the need to point it out.

And I am feeling very successful with food and Isabelle lately. Since I’ve included her more in the preparing and choosing, she’s become more open to trying new things. She won’t necessarily eat it but she will open her mouth to try. What an improvement. Before it was only licking like in the drawing but now it’s honest to goodness put in your mouth trying. I mean occasionally she will slide and just lick but most of the time she’ll plop an entire bite into her mouth. Then if she doesn’t like it she will spit it out.

As I type this, I cannot find one of my pens *exasperated sigh*.

Yes. Alan cuts her crusts off. I do sometimes. Most of the times I don’t. Isabelle doesn’t usually get mad about it though. For some reason that day she did. Like I had ruined her sandwich.

Nathan climbing up onto stuff is scary. I know it’s not high but sometimes he takes face plants crawling over a pillow. Sheesh sometimes he takes face plants just crawling. He lays there all sprawled out whimpering and I wonder how does he slip when he’s crawling?! He’s already so close to the ground…

And yeah I think that day Alan went to work early. He didn’t tell me until it was about time for him to leave.

Sketchy and More Sketchy

I figure if I buckle down and post four pages of sketches for the next three four days I should be all caught up. So, here I am. Buckling down.
July 10, 2010
1. I should have drawn Isabelle doing the face wipe thing sad first. Because now it looks like she ended up sad but she wasn’t. She was playing so of course she ended up happy.

2. Isabelle rarely takes naps in the car anymore. So, her falling asleep was quite unexpected. She woke up right when Nathan grabbed her glasses. Bummer.

3. Hee hee! I love how she asked if there were crocodiles in the water.

4. I thought it was hilarious that Isabelle had her nose pinched the entire time. Well, almost the entire time. Except when she was washing her hands.

July 11, 2010
1. Doesn’t everyone caress their phones? Precious precious phone. My precious. ;-)

2. Weird mind meld stuff like this happens to us every so often.

3. Wish I had Isabelle singing up made up words on video.

July 12, 2010
1. Poor Isabelle. I didn’t think she noticed. So, now I give her that same smile that I give Nathan. (Only used that other pen for that one drawing because it bled onto the back side of the page)

2. Boobs. Bwa ha ha!

3. My Nestle. Still miss her.

July 13, 2010
I think these were the last pages Isabelle scribbled on. I didn’t want to touch this scribble. And see the pen bleed.

1. I think Isabelle ruined a few books when she was a baby by gnawing and ripping them.

2. Poor Isabelle got so sad about Alan’s comment about blue bear. It was funny and sad. He didn’t mean to upset her.

3. Isabelle liked the deviled egg. Well the filling part. She tried it when we were making it and she said, yummy! But when we were done, she didn’t want to eat it.

4. Bwa ha ha! Watch out for Alan’s whooha.

Beef Taco Bake

I know I said I would buckle down with the sketches. But I’m thinking about food right now. And well, if that’s where my mind is, that’s what I’m posting about.
Beef taco bake

Beef Taco Bake

Ingredients

  • 2 (10 ounce) cans Ro-Tel tomatoes, drained, 1/2 cup juice reserved
  • 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans (I usually use 20 ounce because that’s what they have at my store)
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1 1/2 pounds 90-percent-lean ground beef
  • 1 (1.25 ounce) package low sodium taco seasoning mix
  • 12 taco shells
  • 3 scallions, sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 475 degrees. Cook beef in a large skillet over medium high until it’s no longer pink, about 5 minutes. While that is cooking, drain and save the juices from one can of tomatoes. Pour the tomatoes into a 13 by 9 inch baking dish. Add beans, hot sauce, and cilantro. Mix together and then spread evenly. Then sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese.
  2. When the beef is no longer pink, pour off the fat and stir in the package of taco seasoning. Drain and save the juices from the other can of tomatoes. You only need 1/2 cup of juice. Add those tomatoes and the 1/2 cup of tomato juice to the beef. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer until thickened and almost dry. That will take about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. While you are waiting spoon 1 tablespoon of cheese into each taco shell and arrange upright in the bean mixture. Once the meat is done, spoon beef mixture evenly into each shell. Cover with foil and bake until bubbling, about 10 minutes. Then remove the foil and top with the left over cheese and bake until the cheese is all melty, takes 4 to 6 minutes. Sprinkle with scallions and eat.

Number of servings (yield): 4-6

Sketchbook Pages

I’ve been busy the last few days. Arrgh I could have been getting caught up on my sketchbook pages *kicking myself. As usual, click to enlarge.

1. What I didn’t draw was how Isabelle kept trying to stick Nathan in her “spaceship”. Or on top! :-o

2. Yeah, why does Nathan complain so much when he’s getting changed? Does he like being dirty?

3. Nathan crawling after crawling Isabelle, so cute!

4. Nathan gets a real kick out of us dancing around.

5. Isabelle usually doesn’t like macaroni and cheese. She usually won’t even try it. But I let her choose which recipe to make so she tried it!

6. I love Alan.

7. I am so glad Nathan is usually a good sleeper.

Scan-100806-0003

1. I like how the low high boy girl voice drawing has a smeary eyebrow. Nathan touched it with his little drooly hand before it had dried.

2. And yes Isabelle chose kale. KALE! We made kale chips. I followed the recipe down to the amount of salt and it was too salty. It didn’t specify how large of a bunch of kale. Maybe that’s why. Maybe my bunch of kale was smaller than the recipes bunch of kale. I could see the potential though. If it weren’t saltier than the sea it would have been yummy. Isabelle very willingly popped one into her mouth too. And then promptly spit the salty thing out.

3. Isabelle just grabbed a book off the shelf and instantly fell in love with it. We borrowed it from the library though it was all ratty and the pages were practically falling out. I’ve read it to her every night for 3 weeks. Well, except for last night.

4. I think I was actually yelling, “get him!” Something to do with Nathan I’m sure.

5. Rapido! I really should try to teach Isabelle Chinese. Hello! Bridgette, you are supposed to speak Chinese with me so I can use it more.

6. Nathan was making so much noise. He actually quite likes it. And it was a good distraction but so loud. He was using one of those small metal flashlights against the shower track. BANG! BANG! BANG! Or more like

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Scan-100806-0005
1. It was another night of waking up. It had been how many in a row though I hadn’t drawn it out. But no new tooth that we can see.

2. I think Alan was tired and maybe that’s why he didn’t realize he had burped in my face. And it’s not like he walked over and burped. He was changing Nathan or I was changing Nathan and one of us walked over…and face full of burp.

3. Can you tell what I was making for Isabelle? I’ll share tomorrow or the day after or…you know me. When I can find some spare time.

Ok, off I go. We are going to a Beaver Festival today. And how fortuitous. We just watched a Zoboomafoo about beavers an hour ago.

So, I was going to post something else but someone distracted me.
Us

Someone who has cookie on her forehead.
Kissy face

Someone who likes taking her own picture.
Buzz and Isabelle

Someone who likes pretending to be a unicorn?
Unicorn Isabelle

Someone named Isabelle. :)

And I know photobooth can record video but I am surprised every single time I rediscover this.
