For My Sister

The other day or the other week, I can’t remember when. I was skyping with my sister. Nathan was crawling and she wanted to see him again. But she realized it wasn’t a video she was watching and couldn’t rewind, so here he is. Crawling. For you. My sea star.

And I think I should just come to terms with the reality that I will always be behind if I post at the pace I have been.

So frustrating. I waffle between cooking everything and no processed food in the house to I’m so tired let’s just go to the drive through on the way home. And I really am at a loss as to how to make Isabelle eat vegetables. Or just try them. Oh, correction, make that Isabelle AND Alan. I have two picky eaters. This feels like my big failure as a mom.

Sometimes it feels like my lofty plans of everyone eating healthy is sabotaged. I know Alan isn’t sabotaging me or my plans. Sometimes he’s just in the mood for a candy bar.

I wish I could teach Isabelle Cantonese but I don’t speak it frequently enough. I’m sure my Cantonese sucks. She asks me to translate lots of names of things in the kitchen and I’m like, I don’t know.

Ok, everyone, enjoy your weekend. Let’s see if my goal of posting everyday to get caught up is wrecked by the weekend.

As anticipated, the weekend knocked my posting plans off track. Oh well. Never mind. Look at some pictures instead while I get my ducks in a row.

Getting My Stubborn Duck in a Row

So, the title of this post. It, of course, refers to Isabelle. On my quest to get Isabelle to try to eat more vegetables, I thought I’d bring her more into the cooking process. Hmmm…stubborn duck. That would work for Alan as well.

But anyhoo…back to what I was saying, getting Isabelle into the cooking process.

Isabelle will usually help me with baking. She’s a great little mixer. And she loves adding ingredients to the bowl. But she’s never been at the stove top.

I am a worry wart. I worry that she’d burn herself. Then one day, Alan mentioned his coworker’s kid, who is younger than Isabelle, making stuff at the stove top. And, so, I thought, well if that kid can do it, Isabelle can too.

Ok, so on that particular day and that particular picture we were NOT making something with vegetables. But she was at the stove top.

She was actually making Cinnamon-Espresso Churros (minus the espresso):

Bwa ha ha! So healthy. ;-)

Ok. Seriously. We have been trying. She made this homemade pizza practically all by herself. She poured all the ingredients in and rolled it herself. She put on the sauce and cheese and even the “tomato explosions”.

Did she eat the tomatoes? Um…NO. But she ate the rest of the pizza that DID have tomato sauce on it. Well…a step at a time, right?

Yeah…couldn’t think of a title. It’s just sketches. Click to enlarge as usual.

I think the funniest part about the Wii playing was that she couldn’t remember if she actually had glasses on. That’s my kind of game playing, where I am so obsessed everything else falls away.

And baby fat rolls. Need I say more about that?

Granted meow meow in Chinese is a dead giveaway for the word cat.

I really liked watching that little film, the Red Balloon, when I was little. But when balloons sneak up behind you or follow you in real life that’s sorta…a lot scary. Or when your daughter can’t sleep with it hovering over her bed so you put it around the corner and it keeps peeking out. SCARY! And yes these things have happened. Ask Alan. He saw the evil balloon sneak up behind me one day when I was cleaning.

And yes. We have mystery snails that are laying eggs. It’s nature, the miracle of life, blah blah blah. It’s gross. And pretty much since that day they’ve been laying little eggs all over. YUCK!

Yeah what is wrong with movie makers in this area. WHY do they have to make them sooooo loud. I mean seriously? What is the point? And why are they so expensive? I can remember when they were like $4.75 or something. And when I was young I used to walk a mile in the snow to school. ;-) Starting to sound like one of those old grumpy folk.

Oh but wait. Old grumpy folk don’t play with toys do they?

Ok, everyone, enjoy your weekend! I am sure our weekend will put a big grinding halt to any posting ideas I may be entertaining.
