Lollipop

A couple of weeks ago we bought a toy marshmallow maker thing. It was a total impulse buy. I saw it at the store and thought: ooh how fun…FOR ME. Well, the day after Christmas we tried it. It was amazingly disgusting. It involved mixing water with powder and injecting it into a mold with a stick. You’re supposed to end up with something that looks like a lollipop, a marshmallow lollipop.

Well, it just didn’t work. I couldn’t get the mold filled all the way. And it smelled nasty. We only tried one packet and have not tried again. The box is sitting in a corner waiting for us. But it’s just so gross I didn’t want to try. Not even for Isabelle who asked to make lollipops again.

So instead, Alan went to the craft store and bought candy molds and chocolate chips to melt. Chocolate is much less creepy than weird stinky marshmallow toy concoction.

Can I eat it now?
Can I eat it now?

Please??
Please??

Ok.
Ok

Chomp.
Chomp

Yum!
Yum!

Maybe we should try making real marshmallows.

  1. Oooo. That chocolate turned out really well. Maybe we should try that for M’s birthday coming up! (We will skip the marshmellow machine, though!). :)

  2. She definitely loves it. Hey, now you can make chocolate lollipops to give away on her next birthday.

  3. Ooooh, I love it. I want chocolate molds too!

  4. I made marshmallows using Alton Brown’s recipe from the food network site: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/homemade-marshmallows-recipe/index.html a few weeks ago. I don’t like marshmallows much, but I liked these better than the store bought bagged ones… but my dad (who also does not care for marshmallows) LOVED them. Of course, my kids and friends loved them too but I couldn’t believe my dad’s response. Crazy!

It was fun too. :) A bit messy but a neat process!

  5. Definitely make the homemade marshmallows. They are so much better than store bought. You can add cocoa to them for chocolate marshmallows or peppermint flavouring with crushed peppermint candies sprinkled on top. Yummy!
