Snow Day
Yesterday we woke up to news that snow had fallen in the city right over the hill from us. Isabelle hasn’t ever seen snow. We keep talking about making a drive up to Tahoe but we haven’t yet. So, with snow so close to us, we went out searching for it. We drove over the hill into that city and saw patches of snow here and there. But not enough to play with.
Then we took a turn up into a residential area on some hills and people had lawns covered with snow! We couldn’t very well pull over and play in some stranger’s yard. So, we drove back down and thought we’d head in the general direction of the big mountain by us. We called first and knew the roads in were closed due to conditions but we were hoping we could get far enough in to see and play with some snow.

But we didn’t even need to go up the mountain. On the way there we spotted snow on the side of the road. And lots of cars pulled over with families playing in it. We parked the car and me and Isabelle walked over with the snow crunching under our feet. It turns out it was part of a state park.
And Isabelle’s response? “It’s cold? Can we go back to the car?”

What?! That was her response?! Well, it’s all our fault. We forgot to get her mittens. She didn’t even want to touch the snow. I showed her some snowmen and she wasn’t really interested so we headed back to the car.

Right by the side of our car, there was this tiny flow of water. She thought it was way more fun than snow. She went jumping around in it yelling, “PUDDLES! PUDDLES!”

What a disappointment. But not all was lost. We went to get a Christmas tree in the area. And they had trees with snow on them so Isabelle got another go at snow. Alan plucked some snow off the branches and had a little snowball fight with Isabelle. And yay there was the reaction I was looking for with snow!
After some fun we got our tree.

No, not that big one, though Isabelle did want it. We got a reasonable sized tree then headed back

to home. (Sorry for the mass of photos taken from the car. I’m just really loving our traveling pictures lately.)
