Here’s our whale, made by us.
Whale

I was so eager to make him, while Isabelle was still interested, that I didn’t even bother with seam allowances. That would probably explain why he didn’t match up properly, his bottom was a little too big and he ended up bunchy.
A little bunching

And that also explains why his flippers seem tiny and pointy.
Tiny flippers

But ain’t he cute? And big too. Bigger than I expected. From the picture in the book I thought for some reason he would sit in the palm of my hand. But I was wrong.

I asked Isabelle to hold him so I could get a picture of his size.

She thought throwing him up and down was a better idea. :)
Er...yeah...good holding

  1. It’s so adorable! It looks great. Question, is that marker drawings on your couch? :)

  2. Oh my gawd, YES!! Whenever I take a picture and the couch is visible I keep meaning to write about how Isabelle scribbled ALL OVER the couches. I don’t know how to get rid of them (but honestly I haven’t tried really hard, I haven’t even tried googling it). Ok not all over but a lot of places. Sigh.

  3. it is big! it’s very cute and you did a better job than I would have done. ;]

  4. that’s really big! and so cute!love the eyebrows! :)

  5. He is soo cute. Seam allowances shmeamallowances! Bravo!
He reminds me of the book called “Grayson” it is a true story of a teenager swimming on the coast of California who befriends a lost whale. I would read that holding that cute whale the entire time.

  6. Adorable! You did a fantastic job :)

  7. Yee Gads that is big! I would have never thought! It is mighty cute though. Gonna have to check if the local Japanese book store can order me copy. Good Job!

  8. yay for the mother and daughter team!! it’s a big whale indeed!! ^^

  9. Great whale – funny coincidence – I’ve been trying to make a whale this weekend too.

  10. He is so cool! And quite big but that adds to his charm.

  11. Great stuff. The eyebrow is what really makes it for me. The whale looks as if he’s slightly suprised.
