A Start to a Little Story

I’ve had this little idea of a spaceman. Having this blog, I can check back to see how long ago I got this idea. It was around October 30, 2006. How awful that it’s been so long!!

Well last year, I sketched him all out. That in itself is pathetic. I can see I sketched him out in January. It took me two and a half months to get to sketching him out.

After that I forgot about him. Well not really forgot about him. I just wanted to do other things more.

Now I’m finally getting back to him. He’s going to be in a little short tiny maybe four page booklet I’m hand making.

So here he is: Andy, the spaceman.

Month Thirty Three Family Picture

Family picture late again.
Oh yeah that's why we don't take pictures with the dogs
Or also called “oh yeah that’s why we don’t take pictures with the dogs”. Do you know how hard it is to get the three of us to look in the same direction, at the camera, at the same time? Now imagine throwing the dogs in there too. Yeah.

I think this was the best shot where you could actually see all of our faces. And none of us are looking at the camera.
Month thirty three family picture

You know, I haven’t been doing recaps on Isabelle. It’s because by the end of the month I can’t remember anything specific so I don’t have anything to write about. But this month, one, no, two things stick out spectacularly, annoyingly, horrifically…

She can now reach the lights and open doors by herself without the help of a chair. Just one day, she realized it. Alan’s losing sleep over this. With every click of the fan he imagines her barging into the bedroom while he’s asleep. And I’m constantly following behind her turning off lights.

This also makes bed time a challenge, to say the least. Why lie there contentedly waiting to fall asleep when you can climb off the bed, turn on the lights, and LEAVE the room?! But once she’s asleep she’s a champion sleeper (well usually, except for this morning when she woke up at 5:52am and stayed AWAKE).

Oh wait, three things stick out. Add throwing her food to the dogs on purpose. She now asks for food just so she can throw it to the dogs. Or sometimes just to throw into the air in every direction because she knows they will eat it. I just thought of that right now because, yep, that’s what she’s doing right this moment. Ok. Must stop typing to deal with my little monkey.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Almost There

Pattern #12
I think I’m almost there, my perfect top for the summer. It’s nice, simple, AND I can wear a regular bra! Yay!

Patterns 11 and 12
It’s pattern #12 from ISBN 4579110439 again (or 9784579110438, I never know what number to put anymore).

I automatically enlarged it knowing that size was an issue. And I also left the bow off. As usual, I started with a muslin. I got as far as finishing the neckline and one armhole. That’s when I decided I liked it enough to use real fabric. But when I finished it, I didn’t like it! I actually stood there, looking in the mirror, wondering if I was very tired when I had decided to make it.

Gathers at the neckline

But then after wearing it a bit, I changed my mind. So, yes, I think it’s almost perfect. The only problem: the neckline is a bit low. Or maybe it’s too wide. You can’t tell that from the picture though.

On the weekend I wore it out and found myself tugging it up because you could see a little bit of my bra cup near the straps. Maybe I enlarged the neckline too much? I’ll have to figure that out and then I see this in a more summery color.

Bag of Trouble and Foe

Bag of trouble
Yes. That’s my little troublemaker. In a bag. What you can’t see is everything else she managed to stick in there. A basketball. A few toys. Woody. Then she stood there, with her feet stuck under everything, saying, “help!”

Trouble
And here’s the troublemaker with poo on her face. No, just kidding. Seeing if you were paying attention. She was, let’s say, over enthusiastic with the washable markers. And my little monkey knew she was being a handful. I could barely get her to stand still to take this picture. She kept running up and down the hall yelling, “dirty! dirty!”

And more trouble
Here is Miss Trouble “playing” with Waldo. Doesn’t that look on his face say, “why are you just standing there with a camera, woman? HELP!”

And onto a different bag, a bag of foe.
Bag of FOE
I’ve been saving this post from Angry Chicken so I’d know where to get some FOE (that’s fold over elastic). And now that I have some, I don’t have any more excuses for not starting a reverse applique swing skirt.
