Screw you, RUDE Barnes and Noble saleslady!

We were at Barnes and Noble a couple of weeks ago. I was in the craft section flipping through a stack of books. I was trying to decide which ones to buy for my birthday. I turned around to see Isabelle walking towards me, her arms full of toys. So I grabbed my books, started snapping pictures, and followed her back to the kid section.

In the kid section Isabelle had laid down all the toys. I was taking pictures of her rearranging them when a saleslady came up, rudely told me I could not take pictures in there, then walked away.

So I just stopped taking pictures, in shock. I was left speechless at the way she had spoken to me. Did you know that you are not allowed to take pictures in Barnes and Noble? I didn’t know. Was there a sign posted somewhere that I should have noticed when I walked in and was bombarded with wall to wall books? I didn’t see anything. Or was I supposed to know intuitively? I am not psychic. Do I have a problem with their policy? No. It’s their store so whatever.

What I do have a problem with: the saleslady was so rude. Don’t they know how to train their staff? Hello? Was it really necessary to be so nasty? How about not alienating your customers? Huh??? Maybe that would be smart? A little courtesy goes a long way. She didn’t need to be so mean about it. Like me taking pictures of Isabelle in their precious store is the end of the world. Oh no I’m taking pictures of how you arrange your fricking books!! Ahhhhh!! Top secret!! Top secret!!!

I don’t see what the big deal is. I just did a search seeing if there is a policy written somewhere and came across a community of Barnes and Noble employees. You would think what they wrote there for all the public to see might be a little worse than these pictures of Isabelle.

Needless to say I did not buy my books from them. And I don’t see myself ever buying books from them in the foreseeable future. I ended up getting my books from Amazon. They are less expensive and I don’t have to deal with rude salespeople. And yes that’s why I posted so many pictures of Isabelle, because of the rude saleslady. Damn, wish I had some more…

Ok how about ending on something happy. Moving on. Notice Isabelle wearing her little coat. We put it on earlier in the day when we were outside and it was chilly. Well in typical Isabelle fashion she refused to take it off. Not even when we were inside where it was nice and warm. She even wanted the hood up all through our meal and the trip to the bookstore.

Love my silly girl!

She is darling!!! Lots of stores have rules about photography because they don’t want their competitors doing espionage on them. I think most of them don’t make a big deal out of it, though. They are going to have to address it more and more now that everyone has a digital camera.

Kuky says: My friend had the same argument, about stores wanting to hide the way they do stuff. Which is actually quite ridiculous. If I were a spy I would have a tiny hidden video camera. I’d be all spy like and shit and they wouldn’t even see me videotaping their top secret book arranging.

Isabelle is adorable, as always. If I were her, I’d want to wear the cute hood all the time, too. Sorry you had to deal with the hateful saleslady at the bookstore. I think she surely could have dealt with that better. And now look where it’s gotten her — she’s lost a great customer.

    Grrr to rude salespeople!

Love the hood! It must be so comfy-cozy for her! Wish I had a big-girl version for myself!

  4. Kari Says:

    Mean people suck.

Kuky says: Yes they do! Unless it’s me. Bwa ha ha!! No. If I’m mean that sucks too.

  5. Kari Says:

    Hee hee. How about:

People who are mean for NO GOOD REASON suck.

You should complain somewhere about the bad customer service. Thank kind of rudeness is just uncalled for.

I don’t think salespeople have a clue how much their attitude can affect a customer’s day! A bright smile and lovely customer service makes me feel very happy (perhaps I lead a very small life!) and a bad attitude leaves me grumpy for quite some time!

Glad you posted the photos, not only are they cute but they’re making a statement! ;)

  8. Laurel Says:

Well, on the up side, those photos are beautiful! Nicely done!

  9. Helen Says:

It is a ridiculus policy. No photos? Paleeeze! Anybody can just go in and look around. What’s to stop a competitor from looking around? How about sending someone over to sketch the place and take note. Makes me want to go in just to take pictures. We should all start hiding our cameras and going in and taking pictures. Then we can have a website exclusively for posting them up. We can take photos of ourselves picking our noses and wiping it on their store walls. We can take pictures of us farting on their chairs. Ha ha! I hate rude people. At least we aren’t them.

Helen is right. If you’ve ever worked in retail you know they spy on each other’s stores just by going in all the time! Too bad you didn’t ask to see the manager and tell her you were told not to take pictures of your daughter learning to love shopping for books! Great way for them to lose customers!

They should be thankful of you taking such beautiful pics of the place with Isabelle.

It makes me wanted to go and take a look, such a nice place.

    BUT NOT ANYMORE…
