The Sewing
Ok here is a catch up post on some of the sewing that was done. I made top c from the same book as the potato dress. It’s the top from the cover of the book. When I first looked at the directions I immediately knew it would not fit me. A small skinny Asian woman I am not. So I knew I had to modify it, more inches around. Since I wasn’t sure how it would come out, I used muslin. Good thing I did! It was just wrong. It was too funny. I should have taken pictures but didn’t think of it. Here, how about a quick drawing.

The upper part of the top was tiny. It wasn’t long enough and it cut my chest area right in the middle of my breasts. And the lower part of the top had so much fabric it was wide like a tent and at the same time too short and didn’t come down far enough past my hips. So I had to fiddle with it. So I must have ended up remaking it four or FIVE times in muslin! I finally ended up with this:

And yep that’s still muslin. It’s two different colors because I used up all my muslin or so I thought. I found some lighter muslin and continued. And after all that I still don’t like it. It’s gaping on the top. So as this point I was thinking this book has been one disappointment after another. Olinda said no matter what I do to the top it wouldn’t look good for my body shape. So I finally finally moved onto something else, top a.

This pattern needed fiddling with as well. Remember: me big Asian woman.
And at this point I couldn’t find much muslin left so only the upper back is muslin. The rest is some garbage fabric. It’s a little too wide at the top and needs a little more work but now I don’t know if I want to cut into it and chance ruining it because I really like how it looks in the garbage fabric. FINALLY something I like from the book.
