In catching up I seem to be posting in no particular order. Actually there is an order. The order is: I’ll show you whatever I have pictures of already. Ok that’s not really orderly, it’s just how I’m doing it since I can’t seem to get it together to take new pictures of everything all at once. And this was taken right after I finished sewing it. I was testing the fit on Isabelle and you can see she wasn’t very happy about trying it on. So you KNOW I had to grab the camera. Love that little grumpy face!

It is a simple a-line skirt, I think that’s what it’s called. It was made when I was half way done with the tiered skirt. I stopped sewing the tiered skirt because I needed to take pictures of the process but there wasn’t enough light out. And I was itching to sew still so I made a simple little skirt for Isabelle using the leftover pink fabric from the tiered skirt. I just started cutting and I thought I had more fabric then I actually had. Turns out it wasn’t enough. So the other side was some blue fabric left over from a dress. I like how it turned out with the different fabric in front and back.

Note to self: I need to make the hem perpendicular to the side seam otherwise it won’t be straight. Who knew? Well I’m sure other people know that…just not me. Now I think I need to make more of these! Well maybe after giving my hands a rest which of course obviously I’m not doing since here I am typing away AGAIN. But I have managed to keep away from the sewing machine! Yay for that little victory! Or nay?! Because I REALLY DO WANT TO SEW SOME MORE! And that little triumph over not being on the sewing machine isn’t that satisfying. Ok wait…my hands oh right…ok yay (a very dejected yay).

Shirred Dress

Quick post as Isabelle is napping with me soon to follow.

Shirred dress (crumpled up and didn’t even bother ironing to take picture). $1 a yard fabric to test it with. Shirring didn’t work as expected. Ties are way way too long, my mistake. Doh! Dug up a picture of her wearing it last weekend.

More next time.

Somebody stop me. I can’t stop thinking about sewing! On my computer thinking about sewing. Trying to watch a DVD and thinking about sewing. Trying to get to sleep but thinking about sewing. So I decided to draw…about sewing! Bwa ha ha ha!!!

Skirts and New Things

Wow I still haven’t caught up with everything I wanted to show. And more stuff just happens everyday so let me just jumble it all in willy nilly. Above are two new skirts for Isabelle. The light green one with the trim was made when Alan was on vacation. It’s from 4579110544 of course. And the orange one I just thought up two nights ago in a must sew sewing frenzy.

And the new things. We’re trying new things in her new skirts. She wore the light green one last week when we went to check out peek a book time at the library. Our first reading time at the library. And maybe not another one for a while because as I’ve mentioned before we are night owls. We woke Isabelle up early to go for reading time. She was completely out of it. Just sat there spacing. Then we brought her to the park where she would not play. Just dragged us around the park and didn’t even climb on any structures. We went home and everybody just went back to bed for another couple of hours.

And she wore her new orange skirt when we went to a small amusement park yesterday. Isabelle got to ride a carousel for the first time! She DID NOT LIKE IT. She held onto Alan for dear life but got less frantic when it started to slow down. She also rode the little train there and did not seem to mind. I think she liked the wind blowing through her hair.

We gave the carousel another try right before we left. This time we sat on a bench that did not move. She was fine however I was quite dizzy and felt like puking. A very fun day!

More Catching Up

Still working on catching up. This was another shirred dress I made for Isabelle while Alan was on vacation. I made it right after the blue one. They are both dress o from 4579110544 again. They were very very easy to make, just rectangles of fabric basically. It was simple cutting with a rotary cutter. No pattern at all. I think it could be done without the exact directions in the book which of course is how I made them since I can’t read Japanese. :)

As I said before the shirring didn’t work out exactly as I expected. I thought it would tighten right as I was sewing but it didn’t. It only tightened up a little, so little that it actually could have worked as a top for me if I had added a few more shirred lines! I ended up gathering it myself like when you gather with thread. That’s not such a bad thing because now I can make myself a top and just pull it as tight as I need.

And amazingly Isabelle didn’t complain right away when I put it on her for pictures. Oh wait. I bribed her with some food. That’s right. As soon as the last bit of food was in her mouth she started tugging at the dress.

And on a completely different subject. We tried Gymboree! We went when Alan was on vacation. I liked it, I think. I say think because maybe I liked it because Isabelle was sliding on soft matted areas and soft slides. I have this fear of her sliding. Or I should say WE have this fear. Have I mentioned that before? We worry that when she’s sliding she’ll fall back and hit her head. I think I had a post all written up before about it and just never posted it because it makes us seem totally overprotective and paranoid which we are so why hide it now? ;-) I actually called my sister asking about when Ebow started to slide and we had this whole conversation about it because, as I said, I’m paranoid. Ok we’re not really that crazy paranoid but about the slides…yeah just a little worried. I’m sure once she starts falling back she’ll just sit right back up. I mean she does know how to balance.

So anyhoo back to what I was saying before I went off on the how weird we are tangent. Gymboree. Inside play. No sun to burn our fair skin. No bugs. And when it’s warm out or I should say freaking hot out is there air conditioning? I don’t know but how cool would that be? We’re going to try it out for a month. I don’t know about the class itself. It’s something right out of a movie. So not us. But I’m willing to try it and see how it goes.
