Sick and Busy and a Plea for Help

I’ve been feeling crappy but I have been surprisingly productive. I’ve sewn up a little top for Isabelle from the Japanese craft book ISBN 4579110544. It’s very adorable but I’m afraid it’s all wrong. I could not figure out what I was supposed to do for the neckline. It’s supposed to be gathered and have a tie. I had no clue how it was supposed to be made so I improvised and put in a buttonhole and threaded the tie all around the neckline and pulled it to make it gathered.

And the pockets don’t look right either. They are supposed to be more gathered and ummmm…not lopsided and funky.

And the sleeves. Yes more gathered. Mine look all wrong.

I didn’t know about the seam allowances and just fudged my way through it all. I would like to make more clothes from here but I must really know what the directions say and not just go at it blindly.

Does anyone have a clue? Here is page 1, page 2, and the directions from the beginning of the book. Anyone read Japanese? Any suggestions would be most helpful!!

Oh and of course taking pictures always involves miss grabby!

  1. Oh, goodness. I can’t help. I *do* know that people often forget that Japanese patterns don’t include the seam allowances.

The dress is cute though … look how much the little grabber wants to get her hands on it. :)

  2. I wish I could help with the dress, but that is way beyond my skill level. It is totally adorable just as it is though.

I hope you feel better soon!

  3. Your weird woman – the dress is so freakin cute!

  4. Looks to me like the neckline and sleeves are both supposed to have elastic threaded through the hem. The little bows are purely decorative and added last.

It looks cute just as it is, though!

  5. I think you’re right Lyssa. The elastic makes perfect sense!

  6. I agree with Lyssa! Elastic! That sounds right. Love the little dress. And loooooooove Little Miss Grabby! Reminds me of those Little Mr. and Little Mrs. books, remember? From our childhood?

  7. Oops, I always post my comments twice, sorry, I guess I am impatient and lame too.

  8. It’s adorable! As long as it fits her, don’t stress too much.

  9. Actually it doesn’t fit her! The smallest size in the book was a size 4. She’ll grow into it though. :)

  10. I think it looks adorable – you did a great job!
