First Word, Bubbles

Sometime last month Isabelle said her first word, bubbles. Well she’s babbled lots of different things but I count this as her first word because I think she knows what she means when she says it. She learned it from Baby Babble. I mentioned that she likes Teletubbies but Baby Babble, she absolutely adores (well as much as a baby with a short attention span can adore something).

When she first said bubbles watching Baby Babble I said did she just say bubbles?! Alan I think that’s her first word! And ever since then when she sees the bubble part on the DVD she says bubbles and has her pointy finger out trying to pop them like on the DVD. See video here (Quicktime, 2.9Mb). You can see her little finger out like she’s trying to pop them and hear her say bubbles!

Oh and the picture above has nothing to do with bubbles. When it gets close to Isabelle turning another month older I have this need to post the pictures in the correct month. Have I mentioned that before? Well anyhoo in this picture Isabelle is wearing a dress we got as a gift. It matches Matilda’s outfit!! What a weird coincidence huh?

Silly Parent #23, Plastic Bag

Wow my first silly parent not illustrated…anyhoo…

Alan was going to give some watermelon to Isabelle to hold and eat. I told him to get a bib. Instead he cut holes in a Safeway plastic bag and used that. Not once but twice. She ripped the first one. I laughed so hard.

Go read Silly Parent #22, Baby Proofing.

Our Monkey Girl

You may have noticed in the bubble video that we have Isabelle’s exersaucer and walker in front of the television. That’s because she would stand there patting the tv or trying to pop the bubbles. Well we had these ottomans there for a bit but our little monkey learned to climb up onto them to pat the tv.

Since the ottomans weren’t keeping her from the tv I moved them to the middle of the room. But with the new climbing skill she acquired, she kept climbing on top of them to sit there. Or I should say try to sit because she would fall off, with me catching her. One night she kept doing it over and over and OVER. Now the ottomans have toys on top of them to stop her from climbing. She’s a regular little monkey.

Books Are Yummy!

When I was little I used to like reading aloud to my sister. It’s one of the things I’m really looking forward to doing with Isabelle when she gets older. I think she likes books. When we read to her she gets the biggest smile on her face. Maybe she thinks they’re yummy.

Month Eleven with Isabelle

Yesterday Isabelle turned eleven months old! Here’s the recap:

  • Has it only been a month since I mentioned she figured out crawling forward? It’s unbelievable that it was such a short time ago. She crawls so quick it feels like she’s been doing it for ages.
  • Of course which leads to the doggy kibble and how we weren’t quick enough to prevent her from sticking it in her mouth. You know, feeding the dogs is harder now. I put the food down and bring her into the bedroom but she zooms off with this happy squeal towards the dog food. I have to distract her now. She really wants that dog food.
  • We used Isabelle’s playpen for the first time. Maybe I should put her in there when I’m feeding the dogs! :)
  • But she would scream. Yes she does proper screams now. They’re loud and piercing sometimes. Not at all like the little ladylike polite quiet screams she was doing before.
  • Yes she would scream and try to climb out because she is a regular monkey with all the climbing she’s doing.
  • Well in the playpen at least she can hold onto the sides and practice her walking. Yes this month she’s been walking with help. Here’s the video again.
  • With all the crawling and trying to walk, bath time means more moving and less sitting still to be washed. That’s been fun because now she has bath toys that she actually tries to play with.
  • This month she got her second tooth. Thankfully it’s on the bottom so I don’t have to worry about teeth on bottom and top meeting for a chomp. I still have the pinching and scratching to worry about. It still hurts but I am so accustomed to it that the other day I looked down and was actually surprised to see I was bleeding.
  • In fact the pinching has spread. She started pinching my arm. You should have seen the bruise she left.
  • Which leads me to no. I’m using that a lot with her now. Did I use to? I don’t know. Now it’s No, that hurts! No, don’t touch that! No, don’t go there! Wonder if that’ll be her next word?
  • Oh yeah, she said her first word! Bubbles!! Video here.
  • Hmmm…that’s all I can think of. I should be sleeping now anyways. She’ll be awake in 6 hours all happy and babbling. I love our beautiful girl.

Update: I forgot to mention her first ponytail. Yep her first. Looks like I was drunk when I put her hair up. Yes…must work on the whole ponytail thing.

    Read month ten.

Some New Yarn and a Book

Last week we went to a yarn store that was closing in the hopes that I would get a good deal on some size 2 needles for my Great Uncle Angus doll. What did I walk out with instead? New yarn and a new book but no needles. Ok, not because I’m a dork and completely forgot. Ok I am a dork but that’s besides the point. :-p They didn’t have any size 2 needles. That’s why. But look at the lovely yarn. :)

    Idea

I came up with this idea for the pinching problem with Isabelle. I’m going to put a pacifier on a necklace and wear that when I’m nursing her. Maybe then she’ll pinch the pacifier instead of me. I think it’s a good idea, just as long as I remember to take it off when I go out. :)
