Too Scared to Alter

Ok I sort of cheated. I was too worried about cutting the fabric and trying to alter it. So I just did a test by basting it up to see how it would look without a zipper and I think it works. Let me get up some courage and maybe I’ll alter it…later.

Wish I could help you but I can’t. Still the fabric is lovely! The fit looks nice too. You are getting back to fighting shape with no problems, girlie!

Great top! The diagonal print of the flowers works perfectly. Basting it together to see how it fits was a great idea. We all know that the more you do something the easier it gets. But who wants to learn (a.k.a. make mistakes) on a cute shirt they just cut out - or their daughter’s dress - or anything for that matter?

You look lovely in that. It’s a great shape for you.
Hey! I thought you were a knitter!
You are making me want to attempt clothes. No, no, no, I write. I do not sew.
You really look good in that. Yes, you do.

It looks like the fit is good. I say go ahead and put the zipper in and love it. I’m inspired to make a skirt over the long weekend. And I’m currently knitting my FIRST SWEATER! It’s a sleeveless v-neck pullover. Looks simple, and I have some fabric that would make a great companion skirt for it. We shall see whether it comes out looking like something a human should wear or not.

i just read your alteration post and question. You were right in your interpretation of the direction in that you would evenly take in on the side seams, both front and back, to make the top fit more snugly. It looks fine in the pic here though - how much do you have pulled together at the back? If it’s more than 5/8, then yes, before you finish it, go in and just take deeper side seams.
