Why I Was an Idiot With Clusters

Ok this looks much better than what I originally knit. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. After many failed searches on Google I finally entered in the right phrase of words, “cluster 5″ -crochet knit, that led me to this post by darn knit.

The directions wrapping yarn twice around needle for each st is where I screwed up. I thought: why did they write that all funny? That’s a yarn over. Why didn’t they write yarn over? Well HELLO!! Because it’s not a yarn over. They meant stick your needle in to do a knit or purl and instead of just wrapping the yarn once like usual wrap it twice. It’s so simple now that I know what they meant. I am an IDIOT!

Now it’s looking like it’s supposed to!

Father’s Day Present for Alan

Alan is such a wonderful father. His love is tangible, it’s like a big blanket that surrounds you with warmth. Once someone with the sight said that to me, you are surrounded by love. And I feel that and can see it with Alan and Isabelle. She is surrounded by love.

Isabelle will never look back on her childhood unhappily. She’s a happy baby, well usually. Except for this weekend. :( I will write about that another time. This post is about Alan’s first Father’s Day present. So on to it.

Things didn’t go exactly as planned. I wrapped Alan’s present up in plain paper and then had the bright idea of stamping Isabelle’s handprints and footprints on it. Turns out that wasn’t such a great idea since Isabelle had no idea what I was doing. She wasn’t very cooperative. Ink got everywhere! On me, on her. I couldn’t get her still to get good prints. Most of the prints came out smeary but Alan loved it.

Then I gave the surprise away. I got Alan a poker chip set. Well the other day I found a poker chip on the floor. I picked it up and looked at it then looked confusedly at the wrapped present. By my reaction and questioning where the chip came from he figured out I had gotten him poker chips. Oh well. I’ll do better next year. :)

Oh and the picture above is all kinds of crazy. I know. It was after midnight, we had a rough day, and I must have been tired. You can’t even really see their faces but in the picture Isabelle’s chewing on the present. How cute is that? So here’s a better picture of daddy and baby:

Dress for Isabelle

I’m not ready to talk about the weekend yet. So instead here’s a dress I made for Isabelle. I’ve been meaning to post about it but got sidetracked. I can’t even tell you the pattern right now because it’s in the other room and Isabelle is sleeping.

I used the same fabric as her bonnet. It’s a little messy. The ties are all strange and awkward. I think I must have done something wrong there. And if I were organized enough I would have a picture to show you what I’m talking about. Maybe tomorrow.

You know I get such joy from making things for Isabelle. But Alan says that when I’m sewing, I ignore her. Like when he walks in the room I run off to the sewing machine. But she’s with Alan so it’s not like she’s all by herself. Now I feel guilty.

Oh and I thought I’d share these pictures. It makes me laugh when I see them. Isabelle with my friend. She’s like I don’t know you. You’re not mommy. And then her with me.

Awkward Part and a Good Sewing Book?

Ok…continuing my thought yesterday. The dress pattern is McCall’s 2213. It’s dress F. And here’s where I said it was awkward.

The armhole bindings are the ties. So it’s folded in half and sewed on the armhole. It then continues up and you tie it. But it’s weird because the tie part is not folded in half. So the transition from the folded part to the not folded part is odd. Am I making any sense at all? It just looks funky. My crappy hand sewing didn’t help. But I guess it mostly looks fine from the outside.

Can anyone recommend a good sewing book? I have one that shows basic stuff like hemming and different seams. But I was thinking of something that had more. Like armholes and ties and smocking and if I want to alter patterns or how to make my own clothes.

Silly Parent #17, Too Loose Diaper

Ok I’m ready to talk about our rough weekend. And it even led to something silly. So here it goes.

Isabelle got her first diaper rash! :( She was fussing on Saturday. We thought it was because of her tooth. And she was crying and we were trying to console her. She was crying so much! We held her a lot, so much that both our arms are sore. Well in the frantic trying to make her feel better we forgot to change her diaper. And she got this awful diaper rash. It looked so bad. We felt terrible, like total failures.

It was so upsetting that I actually had nightmares of her crying. That night I’d wake up through the night like usual and right as I’d fall asleep again I’d dream she was crying and that would wake me up. I was so distraught that the entire next day Alan changed her diapers. I was too scared to touch her little sore area. In fact he changed her diapers into Monday.

So on Monday Isabelle had been going diaperless and just had a shirt on instead of a onesie. We went to see the doctor and it’s too hot for pants so we left her pantless with just a shirt and a diaper. The doctor told us to put loose diapers on her a size up. So we put her diaper on loosely and went to the store.

When we got to the cash register Alan handed her to me. It was then that we realized her right butt cheek was hanging out because the diaper was too loose. And we had been walking around like that the whole time. Good thing she didn’t pee on Alan.

Oh and the diaper rash is almost gone now. I still feel awful about it but it doesn’t seem to bother Isabelle. I mean it looked REALLY BAD. The doctor even sent a test off to make sure there wasn’t an infection. My poor baby is almost better now.

I Hate Bananas Design

YES! We have no bananas, We have no bananas today.

I was just watching Sabrina. Anyhoo…the list of baby food Isabelle doesn’t like is growing. I need to add pears and apples. And I still need to fix the carrot. All these ideas and I find it hard to find time to sew or ahem try out my silk screen kit. When oh when will these onesies be made?
