Silly Parent #13, Baby Fall Down

We were so traumatized yesterday I wasn’t sure I was going to post this. Alan got the saddest look on his face when I was drawing this. And then I couldn’t decide whether or not to categorize it as a silly parent since it was so scary. I tried to, but I can’t really laugh at it yet. But this morning I can smile at our over reaction so silly parent it is.

What happened? I was in the kitchen cooking. Isabelle was on the air mattress in the living room with Alan when I heard this loud thump and then crying! I ran into the living room and Isabelle was in Alan’s arms. She had fallen off the air mattress. O.F.F…T.H.E…M.A.T.T.R.E.S.S..!!! Right onto her face.

Isabelle was crying and Alan was so upset that he wouldn’t let her go. I wanted her in my arms because I’m mommy and she feels safe in my arms. But Alan would not let go! I was so upset I was about to cry. Well he finally gave her to me and she was fine. A little red on her forehead but she wasn’t hurt.

Alan was so traumatized that when she had her nap, soon after, he didn’t want to leave her side. He wanted to rock her to sleep. But I nursed her to sleep because less protest from her. And then he kept cupping her head in his hand and kissing her and saying he had failed as a father. He didn’t want to leave her side even after she was asleep next to me and oblivious. Gawd, I would have needed a crow bar to pry him away! Hours after he just wanted to hold her.

Yeah, daddy loves his little baby girl.

poor isabelle…but i hate to tell you this, the falls are just going to get worse and there will be more distance than just the few inches off the floor like the air mattress! it’s scarey but most times they’re just fine and go back to what they’re doing. i can’t even count how many times jerrett fell, got up, laughed, and went back to playing.

my scariest was when he was 3. the hubby had moved the entertainment unit to fix something behind it. jerrett couldn’t see he tv so he moved the 27 inch tv to a different angle (bam bam, i mean jerrett did). the tv fell on top of him, the corner of it landing smack dab in the middle of his legs. he was more worried that he broke the tv! he had some bruises on his thighs but he was ok. i freaked out! i was in tears and he was laughing!

Oh poor Jerrett! I shudder to think that this will happen more! :(

Poor everyone! I hope it doesn’t seem as awful to you today. I do love the drawings — especially of running panicky mommy. Poor baby! I hope Isabelle is over the shock today!

OMG! My son fell off our bed when we was about 8 months old. It was xmas time and my husband was just lying down on the bed w/ him and he actually fell asleep. I was on the floor wrapping gifts when I heard a loud thump too, then crying. You don’t know how loud I screamed at the hubby for falling asleep! I’m sure I over reacted but we went to the hospital to make sure he was ok! (which he was). Our bed is higher off the ground than the regular standard size beds.

We love Allen! He’s a good daddy. Every parent lets their child fall by accident. It’s good for the child to learn alittle about space, distance, and bumps. But Allen is a shining example of a Dad who hates that his offspring must experience pain to learn. I think we totally overlook Dads in our society (another rant of mine) and that we should have an Allen fan club. With Father’s Day in June, I expect lots of Odes to Allen!
