There’s Just No Pleasing Us

Today Isabelle was falling asleep while she was getting her bath. And then she fell asleep in Alan’s arms even before he got to dry her hair off. He put her down in the bed next to me and she was totally out. Didn’t even need to give her boob. It was freaking me out. Alan’s all like, “You want me to wake her up?? I will. I’ll wake her up!

After all my complaining on here about her not sleeping and then when she does I complain about that too…there’s just no pleasing us.

Oh and look how pudgy Isabelle has gotten from this last bath picture.

That’s Happiness

I loved it when I’m nursing Isabelle and she is holding onto my finger with her tiny little hand and has one of her legs draped up around me. That’s happiness right there.

I haven’t completely given up the idea of silkscreening. In fact I just purchased the Kingi Carpenter’s Silkscreen Workshop DVD. I am so excited and can’t wait for it to get here!

Tummy Time

I know I have footage of Isabelle during tummy time somewhere but I need to transfer it onto the computer. So…just a picture for now.

Before, tummy time was just so sad. Her little face would be buried in the bed or on the playmat with her drool all under her. But now she can hold her head up so high. Now it’s really cute and not sad at all.

New Yarn

Yes that is Nestle’s nose in this picture smelling the yarn. And yes I did buy new yarn when I have unfinished projects waiting.

I love the big bad baby blanket I made Isabelle. Well not quite love because I really disliked the stripes. But I love the size of it and the way it lays and I love using it more than any of her other store bought blankets.

So I just got it into my head to make her a new big bad baby blanket. So off to the Yarn Boutique we went. (Have I ever mentioned the Yarn Boutique here? It’s a yarn store in Lafayette that I like to go to. There are other yarn stores in my area but I prefer to go to the Yarn Boutique. They are always so helpful and friendly there.)

Anyhoo…back to what I was saying. I couldn’t decide on which color I liked more so I thought why not buy both colors! And since they didn’t have any colors that really called out to me in the Plymouth Yarn Encore Colors which I used last time why not buy some more expensive Lorna’s hand dyed yarn? See…told you my brain shorts out when it comes to yarn.

Silly Parent #4

I’ve renamed Silly Parent Mistake to just Silly Parent because well sometimes we’re just silly and these aren’t mistakes at all.

Ok to the silliness now. This started way back in the beginning of our parenthood when we were sleep deprived and Isabelle was weeks old.

One day as Alan lay sleeping and I was awake, I noticed he was shaking. I was slightly concerned. I thought it very odd. But I dismissed it thinking he was having a dream.

Well it was the next day when I noticed it again. Now I was worried. I thought something was wrong with Alan. Maybe he had a tumor in his brain that was causing tremors. So I said to him, “Honey, did you know you’re shaking?!” He replied, “Yes” and then fell back asleep. He needed his sleep so I didn’t jump on him and shake him awake screaming What’s wrong? Why are you shaking? That’s not normal!!

So when he woke up fully I asked him again about the shaking. You know what it was?? He was used to patting Isabelle so she would fall back asleep and he was doing it out of habit in his sleep even though Isabelle wasn’t near him.

I do it too, not shaking in my sleep but swaying. I find myself swaying side to side all the time. I do it even when Isabelle is quite clearly in someone else’s arms and I’m standing right in front of her looking right at her. We’re silly.

Go read silly parent mistake #3.

Month Four With Isabelle

Yesterday Isabelle turned four months old! I can’t believe how quickly the time went by.

Sleeping this month has been a rollercoaster ride. She now sleeps for really long periods of time, or I should say can…CAN. When we CAN get her down at night she is a champion sleeper going for as long as twelve hours. TWELVE HOURS people!! She’ll surface a little for some nursing but even that has cut down within the past two days.

So what else has been happening this fourth month?

  • Isabelle had her first Christmas and New Year. They were absolutely wonderful but wreaked havoc on her sleeping.
  • She laughed for the first time for her daddy, a real laugh not a sleeping laugh. Here’s the link for the video again.
  • We thought she might have a tooth coming in, drooling and chewing on mommy and daddy and anything. But who knows. It may just have been the holidays messing us up.
  • She started doing the king kong thing. See video again here.
  • During tummy time she can hold her head up high.
  • She’s discovered her feet. Sometimes she’ll just sit there holding her toes in her hand. Or sometimes she holds her hands with her toes (our little monkey).
  • Isabelle has really started protesting car rides. It’s not always a sure thing though. I suspect she just doesn’t like night car rides.
  • She got to meet great grandmothers this month, on my side and on Alan’s side of the family.
  • And no more head wobbling. She can sit there with nary a wobble.
  • Rolling over. Hmmmm…on that one. Alan says she can but you know we haven’t really tested it. I mean she will roll over onto her stomach when she’s next to me on the bed but I think my weight on the bed helps her with that. We will have to test that one out for real.

  • I am constantly surprised by how much I love this little person. The thought of losing her makes my edges numb. My love feels so big that I can’t see how other parents could possibly feel this bursting love. But they do. I’ve seen it in the way they look at their children or in somethig they say and I’m right there with them. It’s amazing.

    Read month three.
