I totally forgot it was Chinese New Year. I don’t…

I totally forgot it was Chinese New Year. I don’t know how I managed to do that since on the weekend Bridgette kept saying she had to go home to have dinner with the family.
So HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! Did I have dinner with my family on Chinese New Year’s Eve according to tradition? Nope. Do I give out red envelopes? Nope. Do I have any traditional Chinese New Year food? NOPE!
I was born in Hong Kong but raised in America. And sometimes I wish that we were raised there until we got older. But we moved here when I was almost a year old. In fact Helen was born here in America about 2 weeks after we arrived. I can’t read or write Chinese. I don’t even know if my drawing up there really says Gung Hay Fat Choy. It could say Onh Sek Gau See.
I don’t even speak Cantonese much anymore at all. It’s sad. BRIDGETTE, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TALK TO ME IN CHINESE!!! I want Isabelle to be able to speak it and Tagalog too. What to do, what to do? We almost bought a computer CD that teaches 55 languages. But we didn’t get it because do those really work and ummmm I just want 2 languages so does it not cover them really well since it’s 55 languages? Any suggestions? Bridgette, does Marie speak Cantonese well?

The school that Inwe and Larien might be going to next year is deciding between Spanish and Mandarin as the language to teach.
Happy New Year!

WaWa bought me a Mandarin DVD for the holidays but I haven’t had the time to use it. I will take it to DC with me and then send you all kinds of notes which say “I am tapping while the roster floats on the salty peg.” Just read between the lines, ok?
BTW did I tell you that my baby is going to be Chinese?
(I am totally rolling my eyes and laughing as I write that last line.)

No, Marie doesn’t speak it well, but she understands pretty well. I tried to speak to you in Chinese, but you give up because it takes you too long to get the words out!!! Then you tell me to stop it because you get frustrated!!
Do you want me to try again? I can come over more often and speak to Isabelle in Chinese, but after tax season, since I have no time now.
