Yesterday Isabelle turned three months old and started the day out with two baths. She was sitting as Alan calls it “in pee and poo stew” and then a couple of hours later she peed all over herself during a diaper change. After that nice start to the day we went to get a Christmas tree. At the lot she was very vocal about her dislike of the little area set up to purchase ornaments and get complimentary spiced apple cider. I finally gave up after four attempts at entering and her starting to cry. Man my girl has a set of lungs on her.

So how’s the rest of this month gone? Well, we still don’t have sleeping down. It’s just a continuation of last month where she wakes up every few hours or sometimes feels like every hour through the night and nurses. Except I think just in this past week it’s gotten worse. She has become so cranky. She’s been crying and side nursing her won’t get her to sleep. Alan ends up rocking her and trying to put her down once she falls asleep. I think the other night he had to do that twice. She cried after the first attempt to put her down. My sister gave me the book The No-cry Sleep Solution. I can’t read that thing fast enough.
So a recap of this past month with Isabelle:
Isabelle had her first doctor’s appointment where she got her shots.
So sad.
She has started to outgrow outfits.
We learned how to use the wrap. Love it!
At Thanksgiving we realized she recognizes us by refusing to be held by anyone else. Aaaaaaaaw!
She has had her first real laugh. She’s so happy sometimes, kicking her feet. She started doing this especially when she’s being changed in her play pen. She stomps her feet down really hard with this big smile on her face. *See a video of her happy here.
** Alan was wondering what Isabelle’s first word would be. And he mentioned Meet the Fockers and said asshooooole like the little baby in the movie. Then I kid you not Isabelle who was in Alan’s arms said aaaaaa oooooooo, the same tone Alan was using. It wasn’t really the word but the sound of it. I’m sure it was coincidence. That led to me sporadically saying asshooooole through the day. And Alan yelling at me that he didn’t want her to repeat it, that was not NOT going to be her first word.
*** The lipsmacking (or is it more lip sucking) she started doing last month…well she does it all the time now. So much so that Alan said, “wow she does that a lot.” Which then freaked me out and I’m all like, “is that normal?? Should she be doing that so much??” See a video of it here.
Isabelle can hold her own head up. It’s so amazing to hand her over to Alan just by holding under her armpits.
She holds her arms up or as Alan says she does the zombie thing. Or is that the mummy thing?
And today. Today she used her new skills of holding up her arms to reach out and swat the mobile.
I can’t wait until she’s holding up her arms for one of us.

I love our beautiful fussy demanding baby.
Read month two.
* Update: I couldn’t upload the video last night because of my crappy connection so I uploaded it today.
** Update Two: How could I have forgotten this??
*** Update Three: I don’t know how I forgot this too. Maybe because she does it all the time.
I love your long wavy hair in that photo! So dreamy.
The photo with the outgrown outfit was so clever! I love these monthly summaries and plan to steal this idea from you in about a year. Congrats on Month 3.
I loved the “No Cry Sleep Solution” and used it with my second baby. Hate to tell you, but you can’t use the methods in that book until 4 months. There’s a magic that happens at 4 months of age for a baby. Schedules become clearer, sleep becomes a bit better, happy times are longer and more vibrant.
Here’s a good bit about the No Cry way. My first is a huge thumbsucker to fall asleep–didn’t have the book with her. With my second, I used the No Cry book and she uses no thumb, no pacifier for sleeping. I believe the difference is using that book. I’m planning on using the method with my boy in a few months.
MAYBE SHE IS PRACTICING HER SUCKLING OR MAYBE SHE LIKES THE NOISES SHE MAKES. SO FUNNY!
I think she’s just fulfilling her need to suck. She’s just using her tongue or lips instead of a pacifier or her fingers. It’s only a guess.
She is so cute,
