Yarn for Teddy Bear Coat

This is for my next project, the teddy bear coat by Debbie Bliss. I saw it all knit up at the yarn store and knew I had to knit one for Isabelle. I’m a sucker for little outfits with ears. I get all happy when she wears her Winnie the Pooh hat with ears.

So I bought all this yarn. It was a total impulse buy. I have been trying not to spend money since I’m not working but when it comes to yarn my brain just shorts out sometimes. And then I always rationalize it by saying how it’s for Isabelle and it’s a keepsake etc, etc.

So there are eight balls of Debbie Bliss here, even though you can’t see them all. I needed a total of ten. TEN! That’s a lot of balls. The store didn’t have the darker brown so the saleswoman suggested some Manos del Uruguay. I hope it works out o.k.

Wrap

My sister got me a Moby wrap for Isabelle. It’s a little complicated. I haven’t used it successfully with Isabelle. She seems very unhappy in it. So on the weekend we went to a store to have someone show us how to use it properly. But we actually ended up getting a Hotsling. And it’s worked great, right off the bat.

Isabelle was fussing at the store and quieted right down when she got put in. And the other day she slept for a whole hour with me carrying her around. Same with today. She was fussing and now she’s all quiet in the sling.

Now if I can only figure out the Moby. Then I could nurse her with no hands. You have to check out their videos especially this one! Actually I’d be too freaked out to do that with Isabelle but wow. Baby gymnastics.

Total brain fart moment. I bought a hank of Manos del Uruguay yarn, not a ball or a skein but a hank that needs to be wound. I don’t have a yarn winder. I didn’t even realize it until I went to knit with it. How could I have missed that? Hand winding SUCKS.

Well at least this is knitting along very quickly. I like the chunkiness of the yarn. It’ll be done in no time at all. I can’t wait to see Isabelle in it!

Cloth Or Disposable?

Ever since I saw this post on Blogging Baby about cloth diapering I have been hooked. I like the idea of saving money. That’s a big big positive. So we went and got some prefolds and a couple of diaper covers to give cloth diapering a try.

So ummmm…how does one tell when a cloth diaper is wet? I know with a disposable because of that jelly feeling. But how do you tell with a cloth diaper? We tried it twice on Isabelle and she was crying so we thought she peed. We took off the diaper and looking at it we couldn’t tell. And the outside wasn’t wet…which is good because it didn’t leak through. So Alan told me to feel the inside. I’m like nooo you feel it! He’s like NOOOO!!! So I ended up touching it and yep it was wet. Then I’m running around saying I touched her pee!! I have pee on my hands!!

And we also noticed those two times that her poor little legs had red marks on them after we took the cloth diapers off. I think the diaper cover was rubbing on her or it’s too tight.

Oh..and another thing. It’s so bulky! What are we doing wrong? Her butt is humongous with cloth diapers on. Big booty baby!

And what else…Oh and did you know you have to wash prefolds a gazillion times the first time you use them?! O.k. maybe not a gazillion. It was more like 5 times but damn that seemed like a lot when I was itching to start using them right away. Oh yeah and mustn’t forget the whole drying between the washing too.

O.k sounds all negative here doesn’t it? Well some positives then: they had cute little covers. :) And oh the saving money part…yeah that’s good. Oh and Helen said cloth diapered babies supposedly potty train quicker.

I think we’ll buy some more and give it an honest try. Maybe some different diaper covers too that won’t mark her poor little legs up. Oh and maybe I’ll do some reading up on the internet. Yeah that sounds like a good idea. But in the meantime…back to disposables it is.
