Isabelle is Sick

This is what it’s been like here: obsessive checking with the thermometer, bulb to suck out runny snot, frazzled nerves, tissue to catch the flying dry boogies, and refilling of the humidifier. Isabelle is sick. I’m sick. We have colds. :( We’ve been sick since Thanksgiving I believe.

Her little nose is either stuffed up or runny. It’s so scary. I’m worried her nose will get so stuck up that she has to breath through her mouth which she can’t do if she’s eating!! And yesterday she was all needy and not wanting to be put down. After the third attempt at putting her in her swing she gave me this incredulous look before she started crying again that said: you know I want to be held. How dare you try putting me down again?!

Now I’m worried about germy people touching her. I told Alan we’re not leaving the house for 3 months until she gets older. ;-)

Teddy Bear Coat Mistake

This is the state of the Teddy Bear Coat as of Thanksgiving. I misinterpreted the directions. The sleeves are supposed to be 8″ long. So I measured the dark brown and light brown yarn and it was 8″ so I bound off. Well um duh…the dark brown yarn on the sleeve is turned up so I was supposed to measure just the light brown yarn. Now I am short and will have to knit some more.

Oh well. I’ve moved onto new projects. Yeah…like I need more unfinished projects.

Only Mama and Dada

We had a wonderful four day weekend. I worked on lots of projects but I’m not sharing any of that right now because I wanted to share this instead.

The last family gathering was back in October. It was the first time most people got to see Isabelle. She was handed around from person to person. This Thanksgiving was the second family gathering she’s been to and she wouldn’t have any of that. She would cry in other people’s arms until she was back with me or Alan. Aaawww! She RECOGNIZES US!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good food surrounded by loved ones. That’s where I’ll be, with the people I love and a turkey that weighs more than Isabelle.

First Doctor Appointment

Isabelle had her first doctor appointment. She now weighs 10 pounds 12 ounces. She’s 23″ long and her head circumference is 15″. The doctor said something about her weight being in the 50th percentile. I don’t know what that means and was too distracted to ask because I was worried about her shots. SHOTS!

Yes SHOTS! The doctor didn’t give the shots. I was surprised. We went to the pediatric injection department for shots. She had three done. Two in her left leg and one in her right. It was soooooo sad. She cried for just a little on the first shot but then the last two she just cried and cried. I was all teary eyed and if Alan wasn’t there to soothe me I’m sure I would have been outright bawling. Isabelle didn’t cry that long. Once Alan put her in my arms she quieted down pretty good and even fell asleep for the car ride home.

And now she’s at home, I’m sort of freaking out just a teensy bit. She’s so sleepy. I have had to wake her twice now to feed her.

    Cloth Or Disposable?

Ever since I saw this post on Blogging Baby about cloth diapering I have been hooked. I like the idea of saving money. That’s a big big positive. So we went and got some prefolds and a couple of diaper covers to give cloth diapering a try.

So ummmm…how does one tell when a cloth diaper is wet? I know with a disposable because of that jelly feeling. But how do you tell with a cloth diaper? We tried it twice on Isabelle and she was crying so we thought she peed. We took off the diaper and looking at it we couldn’t tell. And the outside wasn’t wet…which is good because it didn’t leak through. So Alan told me to feel the inside. I’m like nooo you feel it! He’s like NOOOO!!! So I ended up touching it and yep it was wet. Then I’m running around saying I touched her pee!! I have pee on my hands!!

And we also noticed those two times that her poor little legs had red marks on them after we took the cloth diapers off. I think the diaper cover was rubbing on her or it’s too tight.

Oh..and another thing. It’s so bulky! What are we doing wrong? Her butt is humongous with cloth diapers on. Big booty baby!

And what else…Oh and did you know you have to wash prefolds a gazillion times the first time you use them?! O.k. maybe not a gazillion. It was more like 5 times but damn that seemed like a lot when I was itching to start using them right away. Oh yeah and mustn’t forget the whole drying between the washing too.

O.k sounds all negative here doesn’t it? Well some positives then: they had cute little covers. :) And oh the saving money part…yeah that’s good. Oh and Helen said cloth diapered babies supposedly potty train quicker.

I think we’ll buy some more and give it an honest try. Maybe some different diaper covers too that won’t mark her poor little legs up. Oh and maybe I’ll do some reading up on the internet. Yeah that sounds like a good idea. But in the meantime…back to disposables it is.
