Ultrasound at 16 weeks and 4 days
Posted in: Pregnant

We went for our ultrasound on Monday. It’s just taken me this long to write about it because I wanted to scan the pictures in. We were with the nurse almost a whole hour. Yep a whole hour almost! She kept pushing that ultrasound thing into my belly. Taking measurements and putting little notes into the computer while Alan and I watched in wonderment at seeing the baby move. Sometimes the nurse pushed really hard. Like does that make it freaking work better or something? Is that in the manual? “Pushing hard enough to make patient wince will make this machine work better.” Yeah I could have done without that.
I don’t know if an ultrasound usually takes that long. She was measuring the baby’s head and the thigh bone, looking at the heart, pointing out what we were looking at, and every so often she was saying oh the baby’s arm is in the way. And she would have me turn to one side or the other trying to get a better view. And the baby was moving around this way and that and sucking her thumb.
Did you see that? Did you catch what I just wrote there? I said sucking HER thumb. Yes HER thumb. My baby had a hamburger in the ultrasound. The nurse explained that the lines that made the image we were looking at look like a hamburger meant we were having a little girl. A LITTLE GIRL. I’m pregnant with a girl!
Now I can knit cute little baby girl things…ahh that is when I can get back to my routine of knitting…hey but I have incentive now!
