The Microwave is Dead! Long Live the Microwave!

The Microwave is Dead! Long Live the Microwave!. When I was little I never understood that. Well not long live the microwave but long live the king. I couldn’t grasp the concept. I could never figure out how if the king was dead he was then expected to live long.

So anyhoo back to the microwave. Yes our microwave died. I was reheating my tea and there was about 50 seconds left on the timer when the microwave stopped making that microwave noise that microwaves make. The timer was still going but NO MICROWAVE NOISE. I tried it a couple of more times and still nothing. So the next morning Alan gave it a try. It worked. Then I tried it and it didn’t. Ok so I’m thinking: what’s this microwave conspiracy where it refuses to work for me? But Alan tried it again and nothing. So that was it. It was done. It had a long well used life.

So there we were without a microwave. I didn’t realize how much we used our microwave until ours went kapoot. Like how does one heat up leftovers? In the oven? On the stove?! How long will that take? I have to be standing there while the food reheats?! (Gasp in outrage) My Irish cinnamon and apple nstant oatmeal on the stove?!! Oh no no no!! No convenience of the microwave?!?! Unacceptable. Or as Alan said…how barbaric. Hee hee. :) So what to do, what to do? Buy a new microwave of course. And as soon as possible. So we popped over to Best Buy and got one. And you know…now looking back…in my mad frantic rush to get a microwave I didn’t even shop around or do research…NOTHING. We just went and bought one. I can’t believe Alan didn’t say anything! He just said “choose one honey.” Well on the positive side at least I didn’t by the $500 something Siemens one. Whoo.

When we got it home we of course used it immediately. It’s not even installed. It’s the kind that sits above the stove. Well it’s missing the correct size screws so this big humongous monstrosity of a microwave is sitting precariously on the counter plugged in and working. Aaah sweet microwave welcome home.

So…I’ve discovered Blog Pet. How come it’s not a dog? I want a dog. And how come it doesn’t have my name. Well I guess I’ll have to see. Maybe it will just change. On the website I got it from it said, “It’s similar to a Tamigotchi, except it doesn’t need food or water.” Hey cool. I used to have a Tamigotchi. Ahem…I still do. And I know right where he is. In the top drawer in my bathroom. Don’t ask me why but that’s where he is. So let’s see if this BlogPet will stay.

Contrasting Color on Butterfly

I’ve added the contrasting color to the butterfly finally. It was sort of difficult. I don’t think it was the best idea to use such fuzzy yarn. In knitting it I kept catching stray strands. But on the positive side since the yarn is so fuzzy I stuck the needle pretty much anywhere and it isn’t noticeable if it isn’t perfect. I hope my friend likes it. It is very very VERY fuzzy.

Illustration Friday: Adoption

I know it’s not very original but when I think of adoption I think of my dogs right away. So, this is what I did for Illustration Friday this week. I sketched one of my favorite photos of Waldo.

Waldo and Nestle are just like our kids. They were adopted right into our family and into our hearts. And Waldo is just like a kid. He is like a big baby. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that before but he is.

I feed the dogs twice a day. Simple enough. But with Waldo when he’s done eating I need to wipe his mouth and clean the crevices, nooks, and crannies in his face. How he gets food all over his face is quite a mystery to me. And yes i do need to wipe it or he goes and wipes in wherever he pleases i.e. the floor, the bed skirt, the couch…anything. Oh then he’s still not done. Then I clean his tail. He’s a big fat stumpy guy and can’t reach his tail. So he needs help there. Everyday! Yes I try to do this twice a day. Now that isn’t all. When he drinks he doesn’t do that neatly either. He drips a path away from the water bowl. So I have to wipe his face. Just like a baby he is. And I love him. Can you tell?

Thank goodness it’s just him. Nestle is a breeze compared to Waldo. The only thing I have to worry about is brushing her teeth more often. She doesn’t have teeth as good as Waldo. I wonder if that’s because she chews her food while Waldo seems to inhale it.

Soft Bed and Indoor Plumbing Kind Of Girl

Today we watched a DVD from my friend Ann. It was of a trip her and her hubby took to Botswana back in August. She took some pretty awesome photos. Her itinerary included: Makgadikgadi Park, Central Khalahari Game Reserve, Deception Valley Lodge, Okavango Delta, Moremi, Savute (Chobe National Park), Chobe River Serondela, and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe). It looked like an amazing trip.

Alan and I were sitting around talking about it and he doesn’t think we would ever do anything like that. I’m not much of an outdoorsy type. I’ve only gone camping once in my life when I was eleven I think. And it was just overnight and I DID NOT enjoy it. The ground was hard, it was cold, and I couldn’t sleep because I was too freaked out thinking about bugs. I slept with the sleeping bag over my head for fear of bugs and then felt like I couldn’t breathe. So yeah…no fun. So when we were watching Ann’s DVD I said “wow that looks awesome”. And Alan’s like “REALLY?! You so wouldn’t go camping!” And I said yeah “like for the day…maybe.” :)

I’m a soft bed and indoor plumbing kind of girl.
