My dad forwarded me an email about how to survive an earthquake. It’s written by Doug Copp the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI). It’s very interesting about how drop and cover doesn’t work in an earthquake when a building collapses. Instead you should curl up in a fetal position next to a desk, bed, sofa, etc. It’s called the triangle of life survival method. Those tips for earthquake survival are listed here.

The email didn’t have a link to a site so I searched for it. And I found The American Rescue Team International Website. But how do we know this is true? The American Red Cross page says drop and cover. California’s page links to a site that says drop and cover. Everything I’ve learned is drop and cover. I’ve never heard of the Triangle of Life. And when I did a search for Doug Copp some negative things popped up. So do I separate the message from the person who said it? Now what am I going to do in an earthquake? Run around the house like a chicken with his head cut off not knowing whether to get under the desk or curl up next to it. Oh wait…I’ve totally forgotten. RUN OUTSIDE. There you go.
