Obsession

I have an obsession for ottomans. I love ottomans. Whenever we’re in a store and I see an ottoman Alan has to steer me away. I think we’ve purchased five ottomans for the living room. FIVE!

The first two were beanie type things that were supposed to be cubes.

They were useless after being sat upon a dozen times. They were just worn out and sat there looking sad, little, unplumped, and pathetic. We dumped those.

Then we bought some round foam ones that have this lovely golden color. They were very nice and soft to sit on at first. But there wasn’t any support so now, after how many uses, sitting on them is very unsatisfying. They just squoosh down unevenly and you end up sitting all lopsided.

Finally we got a green one at Ikea. It’s wonderful. It’s nice and firm and there’s even storage underneath it. Now my ottoman obsession has been somewhat slaked. I still have to be steered away but I haven’t bought any new ones since we got the one from Ikea. But we only have that one nice one so…I think it’s time to buy another one! :)

Tree in Front Of the House

We have this palm tree in front of our house. It’s all ugly and dead looking on top. And it drops dried up brown leaves that are soooo annoying. Long hard twiggy like leaves or do you call them fronds? Palm fronds? Well whatever they are they are annoying. Alan and I are talking about removing it completely. But I wonder if the yard will look bare without it?

Triangle Of Life

My dad forwarded me an email about how to survive an earthquake. It’s written by Doug Copp the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI). It’s very interesting about how drop and cover doesn’t work in an earthquake when a building collapses. Instead you should curl up in a fetal position next to a desk, bed, sofa, etc. It’s called the triangle of life survival method. Those tips for earthquake survival are listed here.

The email didn’t have a link to a site so I searched for it. And I found The American Rescue Team International Website. But how do we know this is true? The American Red Cross page says drop and cover. California’s page links to a site that says drop and cover. Everything I’ve learned is drop and cover. I’ve never heard of the Triangle of Life. And when I did a search for Doug Copp some negative things popped up. So do I separate the message from the person who said it? Now what am I going to do in an earthquake? Run around the house like a chicken with his head cut off not knowing whether to get under the desk or curl up next to it. Oh wait…I’ve totally forgotten. RUN OUTSIDE. There you go.

Went Visiting

We went to see friends today in Pacifica and San Mateo. My favorite part of the trip there is to cross the Bay Bridge. I love the view as we cross the bridge. We could see Alcatraz over the water and a blanket of fog behind the city.

Once we got further towards Pacifica the sky was completely clouded over and grey and cold. The weather here was so different from home, where we had temperatures in the 90s.

Our friend in Pacifica wasn’t home yet so we spent some time at the beach.

The rest of the day was spent pleasantly with friends chatting and knitting. We even had a chance to go to Michael’s where I bought stuffing so I should soon be done with the teddy bear! Yay!

New Yarn

I’ve gotten some new yarn. When I bought this I thought I would knit up a wrap. I really like the color and the texture. But I’ve knit up a swatch and I don’t like the way it looks knit up. Maybe I’ll just make a scarf and return the rest for credit.

It’s a toy sheep. No, it’s a soft rug. No, it’s a cushion. Sheep. Cushion. Sheep. Cushion.

It’s adorable. It’s from Jonas’ Wagon

They also have a dog.

What Am I Watching

I’m totally untrustworthy. I’m a flibbertigibbet.

Long ago the delicate tangles of his hair covered the emptiness of my hand.
